Saline drops vs Nasal Aspirator

Our son was having breathing issues last night. It sounds like he either has a cold, or he doesnt like the new formula we are using, or its not humid enough in the room, we are trying to figure it out still. However last night he woke up very snotty, and I was just wondering, at what point do you use saline drops? Do any of you out there use them? We tried using the nasal aspirator a bunch of times but that was getting him real upset. We didnt know if we should be using the oval drops, or baby tylenol, or what. All I know is right now I just got to work, and my poor fiancee got up and breast fed him for hours last night, because that he did want and did. And he woke up a bunch of times. PLEASE HELP!

  1. I use the saline drops on all 3 of my kids and they work great. Whenever the kids get stuffed up I use them. They help the babies suck on their soothers and also allows them to drink a bottle. The drops only keep their nose clear for so long, then they usually wake up and fuss again, so I just use more. It is only water, so it can't hurt them. The NICU staff used the drops on our first son and he was 6 weeks early, so that just shows you they are safe.

  2. I used saline drops on my daughter all the time when she was first born and had a stuffy nose. They worked pretty good.
There is a product out called Hydra Sense - they have a special formula for infants. Anyway I tried it out on my daughter and within minutes her nose was flowing like crazy! It was nasty but cleared her out quickly. It's a saline solution so there's no medication in it and it's good because it not only clears out their nose but it lubricates their nasal passages too so they don't get a dry nose/nosebleeds.

For both products - the baby will hate it, scream like crazy but it DOES help them so worth it. Just make sure to give him a good cuddle afterwards!
